Award-winning DME Contractors is a preeminent WA commercial landscaping firms, with a specialty in large-scale public projects including civil works and hard and soft landscaping in Perth Metro, the South West region, Karratha and the Pilbara.

Recognized for Best Commercial” category for the Eastern Gateway Project at the Landscape Design & Irrigation Awards of Excellence for its quality workmanship, and project management skills, DME Contractors has built a reputation for consistently producing impeccable landscaping and related construction and maintenance services with a unwavering production management.

The Cornerstone of the Pilbara

DME Contractor’s Managaing Director Mike Jones has over 30 years’ experience in the industry. When The Australian Business Journal first spoke with Jones, he was inspecting an $8 million project in the Pilbara that will include landscaping for 170 houses in the Pilbara. With its headquarters in the Pilbara, DME Contractors has a strong focus of working in the Northwest, and being proactive in indigenous employment. DME Contractors is committed to employee training and is an Accredited Priority Access Employer with the Western Australia Department of Training and Employment (Accreditation No 02276) with 200 points and is an accredited member of the Landscape Industries Association of WA (LIAWA), the Master Builders Association (WA) and the Civil Contractors Federation.

“Because we have been based there, we don’t fly in and fly out, been there for five years permanently, we have an expertise in that area,” says Jones. “The remoteness of the Pilbara creates problems on the logistical side of things, such as difficulty in getting materials and equipment and staff to different areas. We are well aware of that and we are able to work with those situations to make sure we get the best outcomes.”

“Best outcomes” has brought the spotlight on DME Contractors. In December, 2012, water management solutions giant Total Eden Pty Ltd. DME Contractors and Total Eden have a 20-year working relationship, making the more very fluid for Jones and his 50 employees.

“The purchase of DME is an outstanding opportunity to consolidate our landscaping business and provide us with a vehicle to expand and invest into the north west of Western Australia, where DME have enjoyed strong customer support over many years,” says the company.

The move was precipitated by a trend for landscape and irrigation companies to merge. “Total Eden is much bigger than we are and so they were looking to access the landscaping industry to secure their projects,” says Jones. “We had many million dollars of work in irrigation that they were going to be doing for us, so buying us guaranteed they got the work and expanded on the work they were accessible to.”

Going forward DME Contractors will remain focused on the north west of the state but we specialize in large scale public project with shire councils, state government departments, land developers, mining companies, infrastructure projects. On projects like the Sorrento Boardwalk, DME Contractors displays its expertise in earthworks, concrete and asphalt paving, patterned Concrete Pathway, Limestone Walls and Spalling, Lighting, Furniture Installation, Irrigation, Turf Installation, and Tree Planting.

Currently, DME Contractors is working on a several high-profile projects, including town of Port Hedland strategic planning projects will shape the Port Hedland of the future. The South Hedland Shopping Centre has also called on DME Contractors for landscaping needs in its $15 million redevelopment.

“We take the red earth of the park, just dirt, and make it a useable space with playgrounds, lighting, sound structure, grass, and trees,” says Jones.

When asked what companies go to DME Contractor for, Jones says “We get the job done. If there are complications, we always fix them and see all our projects through from start to finish.”

This is a new chapter for DME Contractors, one that will have a happy ending if DME Contractors keeps on the path they have forged. The company will enjoy continued expansion, with Jones focusing on more and larger projects and an ever greater focus on the Northwest.
